STEVENS POINT – Residents are invited to give their post-Halloween pumpkins a fun and environmentally friendly send-off during the 2026 Community Pumpkin Smash, taking place on Nov. 7, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Stevens Point Brewery.
The nonprofit, Recycling Connections, encourages community members to bring old pumpkins and other natural fall decorations for composting before winter arrives. Participants are asked to remove all candles, plastic decorations, and other non-compostable materials before bringing items to the event. Pumpkins decorated with glitter or paint cannot be accepted for composting.
In addition to helping divert organic materials from landfills, attendees can enjoy an afternoon filled with fun activities, including arts and crafts, live music, and children’s activities.
Organizers are also collecting non-perishable food donations throughout the event to support local food pantries and help families in need within the community. "The Community Pumpkin Smash is a great opportunity for residents to have fun, celebrate the season, and make a positive environmental impact by composting organic materials rather than sending them to a landfill," Susan Schuller, Executive Director for Recycling Connections said.
